Petrotec AG is one of Europe’s largest biodiesel producers from waste and a pioneer in converting low-cost fats and used cooking oils into biodiesel. The company has an annual capacity of 185,000 tons from two production facilities located in Borken and Emden, Germany.
Using proprietary multi-feedstock technology, Petrotec produces one of the world’s most sustainable and climate-friendly biodiesels. In fact, the carbon footprint of Petrotec's biodiesel is significantly lower than can be achieved through the use of palm and/or soybean oils. Petrotec's differentiating technology and sequenced, fully-automated production processes enable the company to process high-grade biodiesel from a heterogeneous range of feedstocks from waste such as used cooking oil, animal fats, fish oils as well as virgin oils such as rape seed, soy and palm.
Petrotec developed its process for manufacturing biodiesel in the mid-1990s and launched its first industrial biodiesel production plant in 2000.
The company maintains blending agreements with several of Europe’s largest oil distributors, including BP. In addition, it sells products under the "EcoPremium Biodiesel" brand to freight-forwarding, mineral and oil companies, and by-products (glycerine, fatty acids and potassium sulphate) on the open market. The company meets EC biofuels guidelines (EN 14214).
